Discovered by the local surfers, Jardim do Mar has become a compulsory meeting point for those who have embraced this lifestyle. Its waves, considered the best on the island, hosted in 2001 the Big Wave World Championship.

The narrow cobbled alleys, lined with the fishermen houses, take us down to the sea. Some of these have been converted into guest houses, but you can also stay overnight at the only recently refurbished  hotel of the Village – Hotel Jardim do Mar.

I recommend  the 2 km uphill walk, starting by the old watermill for beautiful views.

Discover cosy restaurants and bars and enjoy the local specialities while having some relaxing moments.

The special atmosphere of the sunset over the red-tile roofs, the ruins of the old sugar mill and the church is something you  do not want to miss.
