From February 1st to 3rd – Madeira Orienteering Festival 2019:

The Mountain Club of Funchal (Clube de Montanha do Funchal) is organising the 2019 Madeira Orienteering Festival.
This year the event will be divided in sectors and it will take place from February 1st to 3rd, with 131 athletes, the majority are madeiran and from continental Portugal, nevertheless with some foreign athletes from England, Hungary and Sweden.
The first day of competition, Friday, will be in an idilic spot called “Fanal”, while the following day, Saturday, the event will be in Machico, with the accomplishment of two courses. Already on Sunday the last stage will be disputed in the Ground of “Feiteiras”.

From February 1st to 2nd – Saint Blaise Festivity (Festas de São Brás) – Campanário

On the first weekend of February the Parish of Campanário, west of Funchal, celebrates their patron saint, Saint Blaise (São Brás).
On Saturday, the 2nd, the saint will be transported to a usual visit to the different sites of the village, Simultaneously a set of fire pinwheels will mark the holly passage as well as the sound of the marching band. There will be a mass, at 8 p.m., followed by entertainement. ‘
On Sunday it will take place the traditional Boatmen’s novena’, very early in the morning, around 8 a.m. The procession will be at 4:30 p.m
After this a set of traditional musical performances will take place after 6 p.m.

From February 8th to 10th – Weddings Fair “Funchal Noivos & Festas”

On the second weekend of February at the Pestana Forum Casino you will be able to attend to a promotional event where brides and grooms will be the stars as well as the beautiful archipelago of Madeira.

February 21st, 23rd, 24th and 28th – Compadres Feast – Santana (northeast Madeira)

The ‘Festa dos Compadres’ marks the opening of the Carnival season in Madeira, a tradition going back to more than 50 years.
Hundreds of people participate in this event either for the parade or live play full of satire and humour. The high moment is usually the godfathers’ judgement.

February 21st – International Tourist Guides Day

Internatiomal Tourist Guide’s Day is held on the 21st February each year. Celebrations were held for the first time in 1990 by the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA). Today, more than 70 countries celebrate this event worldwide.
