For centuries we were considered an experimental field for most of the European botanical gardens – The naturalist James Cook mentioned Madeira

flora on his journey. Bulbs, seeds and cuttings were left here on purpose before travelling further north in Europe.

Madeira was a compulsory stop for those travelling from northern Europe towards other continents. Why? Our privileged location and the mild temperatures all year round made it perfect for visitors to get acclimatized before moving on to warmer climates
