Are you staying for a week or just a couple of hours in Funchal, the capital city of Madeira? Don’t miss out a very pleasant walk in the Rua de Santa Maria (Santa Maria Street), and you will see an authentic art gallery, lovely street art.

Situated in Zona Velha (Old Town), this street offers us more than 200 different painted doors, either of houses, bares, cafés or restaurant entrances. In fact, as you walk along the street, it seems every door is a little bit special.

This project results from a partnership between José Maria  Zyberchema, João Carlos Abreu, former Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture, the Municipality of Funchal in collaboration with a couple of private entities and artists. The idea was to revitalize the town.

To finish your walking, take the opportunity to enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner in one of the very good restaurants of this historical street.
