Keen on tropical plants? Then this is the garden for you in Madeira!
Surrounding an elegant 18th century house that is now a charming small luxury hotel, Jardins do Lago exhibit more than 500 species of plants coming from all over the world.
Cannas, hibiscus, crotons, heliconias, strelitzias, arum lillies, agapanthus and many more grow side by side with plumerias, African tulip trees, bottle brush trees, travellers palms, screwpines and araucarias.
A huge collection of bromeliads is one of the stars in this garden.
Jardins do Lago is also home to a giant tortoise from the Galápagos called Colombo, who has been living here for more than 50 years.
